My name is Cas McDaniel, and my pronouns are they/them/theirs. I am an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor supervised by Georgie Kelly, MA, LPCC. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and a Master of Arts in Counseling, specializing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, from the University of San Diego. I identify as a white, neurodiverse, genderqueer, and queer human. If you would like to know more about my identities, you are always welcome to ask.
I have worked in the mental health field for over 6 years, centered on working with complex trauma, dissociation, and queer and trans communities. My clinical background spans hospital outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, adult outpatient, Assertive Community Treatment, and intensive outpatient programs with Sharp Mesa Vista, Alvarado Parkway Institute (API), and the Community Research Foundation. Through these settings, I have supported individuals navigating serious mental illness, trauma, and co-occurring substance use disorders through both individual and group therapy.
My therapeutic approach is person-centered, experiential, and relational, grounded in an anti-oppressive and social justice framework. I operate from the conviction that our bodies, identities, and mental health are political. Healing from trauma, societal stigma, and painful wounds is both a sacred and radical act. I am firmly sex-positive, polyamory-aware, kink-affirming, and comfortable exploring all aspects of sex, gender, and relationships.
I primarily use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to explore how your past experiences, intersecting identities, and systemic barriers shape your inner world. I work from the perspective that you have no bad parts. Even the parts that feel overwhelming or cause you problems often took on extreme protective roles to help you survive painful burdens. I also draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy principles to bring compassion and curiosity to your thoughts, emotions, and internal system, helping you heal and live a meaningful, authentic life.
